WW2 British Home Front Fire Wardens Helmet SMLD 1941 Inc Lining Zuckerman
Thanks for looking
If you're reading this then you'll already know exactly what you're looking at.
These were issued to The Home Guard/Civil Defence Wardens during WWII - this colour was specifically for Fire Wardens (I think - I'm not a military historian!). Rather than me waffle on and on about the helmet I'd recommend google it - there's a far more detailed description on the Imperial War Museum site and loads of other dedicated websites which explain where and how it was made, issued and used in far greater detail than I have space for here!
What will be of interest is the condition. All photos are of the actual helmet that you'll recieve so feel free to zoom in for a closer look.
This is in surprisingly good shape for such an old helmet. I've done some pricing research to check what they sell for - you can get an absolutely battered and corroded one without the lining for around £40. Pristine ones start at £280 and go all the way up to £800 for a rare model. This example sits bang in the middle so I've tried to keep the price as low as possible.
This one still has most (about 95%) of the original blue/grey paintwork present. There's some surface rust around the rim but nothing too bad. It has some of the original 'W' paint in black on the front but it's difficult to read. Structurally, it's perfect with no dings or dents. The lining is all present and complete - it even still has the original string! You can see the year, manufacturer & size embossed on the leather very clearly. Also, the leather is still supple and not brittle and crumbly - you could wear this now if you wanted to and it would be fine.
Theoretically, you could give it a clean and repaint to make it look brand new but I really hope you don't! There's not many of these left so I hope it goes to someone who will keep it as it is in honor of it's original owners service.

Shipped within 24H tracked and signed. Its not a delicate item but we dont want the paintwork to be scratched so it will be well padded and boxed before shipping with Royal Mail (don't worry, we don't use hermes/evri who would take great delight 'accidentally losing' such a rare and valuable object with a good resale value!)
