Great opportunity to own a vintage early 1950s Joseph Cheaney suitcase in excellent condition.

Obviously, this is a specialist item, so if you're reading this then you're probably already aware of how difficult it has become to find original 1950s cases these days due to high demand.

We sell loads of vintage cases, but this is something different.

Firstly, the colour. Cream cases are by some distance the most desirable. Far fewer remain and they are in high demand for weddings, photo shoots, film, TV and display work.

Secondly, this one still has its original travel stickers attached. Way back in the 1950s it was used to travel from Manchester to Vancouver on a P&O ship... wonder how it got back here!

If you're not familiar with Cheaney then it's worth looking them up. Joseph Cheaney & Sons is one of the great traditional Northamptonshire shoemakers and has been manufacturing in England since 1886. Like a number of British manufacturers, Cheaney also produced other leather goods and luggage during its long history.

We're incredibly lucky to have this case.

This case is a particularly nice example and appears to be made from a thick leather-look vinyl/leatherette material. It's lightweight, tough and has a wonderful period appearance.

The pale grey stripe around the sides provides a really attractive two-tone effect.

CONDITION

We get many of these from house-clearance sales and check each one carefully before purchase - we only pick out the best.

They have often spent decades stored away in dry attics, which is why some survive in remarkably good condition.

The previous guardian was clearly careful with this one, so it remains in very good condition for its age.

There are a few minor scratches to the shell and some interesting battle scars from its travels, but nothing excessive and all of the closures work perfectly.

It is certainly still usable as a proper suitcase if desired.

It has already survived for over 70 years and, with a little care, should have plenty of life left in it yet.
