Vintage Hallicrafters Model S-38C shortwave / communications receiver, dating from the early 1950s.
A great original example for restoration, display or spares/repair. The radio in the photos is the one that you'll recieve.
The radio appears to be substantially complete, including the valves – please study the photographs of the interior carefully as these form part of the description.
Cosmetically it presents well for its age, with the expected marks, scratches, paint wear and signs of age/use to the metal casing.
The interior is very dusty and would benefit from a thorough clean and inspection. There are also areas of surface corrosion/rust internally, as shown in the photographs.
IMPORTANT – UNTESTED:
This is an American-market receiver designed for approximately 105–125V operation. It currently has an old UK mains plug fitted, but I have no knowledge of how or whether it was previously used on UK mains voltage.
Because of its age, the old plug and the fact that it is a US-voltage vintage valve radio, I have made no attempt whatsoever to plug it in or test it. I don't want to interfere with the original wiring or risk damaging the radio.
It is therefore being sold strictly as UNTESTED and for restoration / spares or repair.
It should be properly inspected by somebody familiar with vintage valve radio equipment before any attempt is made to connect it to a power supply.
All knobs and switches appear to be present and the front dial and markings display nicely.
