Thanks for looking!
Here's a rather unusual piece of British engineering history — an original 1960s GEC Grenadier Electric Firelighter, manufactured in England and still in full working order!
If you're familiar with these wonderful old machines, you'll already know how effective they are. Designed to get coal fires going quickly and efficiently, they're built like proper old-fashioned British industrial equipment, rather than the lightweight appliances we're accustomed to today.
In fact, the basic design has proved so successful that modern versions are still manufactured, with new examples retailing at around £180!
This is a genuine vintage example, believed to date from the 1960s, and despite its age, we've tested it and can confirm that it's fully operational.
It comes complete with its original operating key and represents a great opportunity to acquire a proper piece of usable retro equipment at a fraction of the cost of a new one.
The item shown in our photographs is the exact one you'll receive.

CONDITION
Good vintage condition, particularly considering this machine is approximately sixty years old!
First and most importantly, the firelighter has been tested and works exactly as intended during our testing.
As you'd expect from a piece of equipment designed to work around burning coal, there are various cosmetic signs of age and use, including scratches, marks, tarnishing and some surface rust.
The main point worth mentioning is the metal nozzle at the end of the heating tube.
Over the decades, the original nozzle has deteriorated slightly and is now approximately two inches shorter than it would have been when new. This is quite understandable, as these machines were designed to work in direct proximity to hot coals.
There is also some rust around this area, clearly visible in our photographs.
However, neither the rust nor the shortened nozzle prevented the firelighter from working correctly during our testing.
The main housing, handle and operating components are all present, including the original key.
We've deliberately left the machine in its authentic vintage condition rather than attempting to restore or repaint it.
It's a fascinating piece of old British engineering, and there's something rather satisfying about equipment built around sixty years ago that can still perform its original function today.
Whether you're looking for an old-fashioned electric firelighter or simply appreciate vintage British electrical equipment, this is an interesting opportunity to acquire something rather different.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION
Please remember that this is a vintage 1800W electrical heating appliance, not a toy. Keep it well away from young children and pets.
The heating element and nozzle can become extremely hot, so appropriate precautions are essential.
Please study all photographs carefully, as these form part of the description and clearly show the condition of this vintage item.
