This is a particularly attractive early example, dating from 2012. Tetrad's collaboration with Harris Tweed began around 2011, with the collection entering production shortly afterwards, placing this chair right at the beginning of what became one of Tetrad's most recognisable ranges.

The original labels remain attached beneath the chair, including the Harris Tweed Orb certification label.

The combination of green leather, traditional Harris Tweed, individually studded rolled arms and substantial carved wooden feet gives this chair enormous character. After approximately 14 years, the leather has developed the wonderful natural patina that is one of the main attractions of these chairs.

CONDITION

The chair is in outstanding condition for its age and has clearly been very well looked after.

Most importantly, the leather is completely sound. There are no rips, holes, splits, worn-through areas or thin patches. It remains supple and glossy throughout.

The areas which have naturally received the most contact have developed considerable tonal variation, fine surface creasing and a rich aged patina. The leather to the sides and rear, which receives much less contact, remains remarkably close to its original appearance.

There are a couple of minor surface marks to one arm and the upper area of the chair, which can be seen in the photographs. These could potentially be reduced with cleaning, but I have deliberately left them alone. Personally, I would rather preserve the established patina than start aggressively cleaning individual areas of a 14-year-old leather chair.

All of the decorative studs are present.

The carved wooden feet are also in very good condition, with just a couple of minor age-related marks/scuffs.

HARRIS TWEED

Both Harris Tweed cushions remain in outstanding condition with no significant wear or damage. They retain their shape extremely well, as does the chair itself.

The Harris Tweed is genuine, carrying the famous Orb certification label confirming it as 100% pure new wool, hand woven in the Outer Hebrides.

STRUCTURAL CONDITION

Structurally the chair is superb.

The frame is completely solid, the springs remain excellent and there is no notable wear beneath the cushions. There is no sagging or deterioration suggesting anything approaching the end of its useful life.

These were extremely substantial pieces of furniture when new and this one demonstrates why. Properly cared for, there is no reason a chair of this quality shouldn't continue to give many more years – and potentially generations – of use.

A CHAIR WITH CHARACTER

It is probably worth making one thing clear.

If you're looking for a perfectly uniform, shiny, new-looking leather armchair, this probably isn't the chair for you.

Its appeal is precisely the opposite.

The leather has been allowed to age naturally and honestly, developing the sort of character that only comes from years of gentle use. It hasn't been recoloured, refinished or restored to make it look new.

This is the sort of chair that would look completely at home in a traditional or rustic interior, beside an open fireplace, in a country house, cottage, study or reading room – somewhere its age and character become part of the room rather than something to disguise.

It is a lovely piece of British furniture that already has history behind it and should only improve with further careful use.

DELIVERY / COLLECTION

UK mainland delivery is £185.

Because of the size, weight and value of the chair, I do not intend to entrust it to an ordinary parcel courier.

Delivery will be arranged through Porta, a specialist furniture transport service. The chair will be collected from me, professionally secured and protected for transport, and delivered through their specialist furniture delivery network.

The buyer therefore does NOT need to find a courier or organise the logistics themselves – I will arrange the transport following purchase.

Please allow a little more time than you would for an ordinary parcel delivery, as specialist furniture transport is arranged according to collection and delivery routes.

Collection in person is also very welcome if preferred.

PLEASE NOTE: this is a substantial armchair and will NOT fit into an ordinary car. Anyone collecting will need a suitable van or similarly sized vehicle.

Finally, please study all photographs carefully. They form an important part of the description and will include detailed close-ups of the leather, Harris Tweed, woodwork, labels and any age-related marks.

A beautiful, early Tetrad Harris Tweed chair with genuine age and character – increasingly difficult to replicate simply because patina like this takes years to acquire.
