Attributed to Tom Bennett – "Juliet" Bronze Sculpture – 17.5" Long

A beautiful and substantial hollow-cast bronze sculpture closely matching the documented "Juliet" design attributed to British sculptor Tom Bennett.

Tom Bennett, and later Tom & Bob Bennett, became well known during the late 1970s through the 1980s and into the 1990s for their elegant modernist bronze sculptures featuring elongated reclining female figures and flowing drapery. Their work was sold through galleries in the UK and internationally and remains popular with collectors today.

This example measures approximately:

• Length: 17.5 inches (44.5cm)

• Height: 7.5 inches (19cm)

• Weight: 1.240 kg

The sculpture has a rich dark brown patinated finish and is a heavy hollow-cast bronze. It is non-magnetic, with the exposed casting aperture showing natural verdigris oxidation and substantial bronze wall thickness, all consistent with a traditionally cast bronze rather than a lightweight decorative resin copy.

The sculpture was acquired from an auction with a felt-covered underside. The felt was carefully removed in the hope of revealing a signature or edition number; however, no signature, edition number or foundry mark was found.

The underside has not been repainted or altered, and detailed photographs are included showing the base exactly as found.

The overall design, proportions and pose closely correspond with the documented "Juliet" sculpture attributed to Tom Bennett. However, as this example is unsigned, it is being sold as attributed to Tom Bennett, allowing buyers to make their own assessment from the comprehensive photographs provided. From my own research I'm pretty sure this is definitely a genuine Tom Bennett - too niche and too expensive to copy in bronze at these correct proportions. Could be either the artists proof/foundry example/early cast (unlikely) or it was originally on a base which had the artists signature and the number (highly probable as other examples that have sold in the past all have the signature and details on the base)

Condition

Very good overall condition with an attractive aged patina and only light signs of age and handling consistent with display. There are no cracks or structural issues. Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the description.

A striking and decorative bronze sculpture that displays beautifully and would make an excellent addition to a modern art collection or contemporary interior.
