ANTIQUE JONES FAMILY CS “THE PENTAGON” HAND-CRANK SEWING MACHINE – c.1917

The machine in the photos is the one that you'll recieve

A lovely early British-made Jones sewing machine, badged “THE PENTAGON” and dating from approximately 1917.

Research identifies this as a Jones Family CS – one of Jones’ long-running and very successful domestic machines, which were also supplied under a number of retailer and distributor names. “The Pentagon” is one of the documented variants.

Serial number: 247299.

This is a particularly attractive example with extensive gold floral decoration, the large nickel-edged balance wheel and Pentagon branding to both the arm and bed.

Most importantly, it isn't just a display piece – I have tested the machine and it is working properly. The hand crank turns smoothly and the mechanism operates as it should.

DETAILS:

• Genuine Jones Family CS sewing machine

• “The Pentagon” badged version

• Circa 1917

• Serial number 247299

• Made in Britain

• Traditional hand-crank operation

• Original wooden base

• Wooden carrying/storage case included

• Original key included

• Tested and working

CONDITION:

Very good antique condition for a machine now over 100 years old.

The black finish and decorative floral detailing have survived particularly well and it displays beautifully. Naturally there are marks, scratches and general signs of age and use to both the machine and wooden base/case – please study the photographs as these form part of the description.

There is one minor issue worth mentioning: the small accessory drawer/compartment at the side of the wooden base is missing one of the wooden retaining slats, so the drawer is loose in its fitting. This is a minor cosmetic/storage issue only and has absolutely no effect on the operation or performance of the sewing machine.

Mechanically it has been tested and is working well.

A lovely usable antique machine, but equally attractive as a decorative or display piece – and the less commonly seen “Pentagon” badging makes it rather more interesting than the standard Jones Family CS.

Please see all photographs for condition and exactly what is included.

It is an extremely heavy machine, so it will be very carefully packed for delivery.
