Vintage Panasonic Toughbook CF-27 Laptop Olivetti JP90 Printer Samsonite Case
Thanks for looking
If you're reading this then you'll already know exactly what you're looking at.
Please read the description all the way to the end. I'm not a computer technician but even I can tell this will need some work and software installed to get it fully functional.
Very rare opportunity to own a genuine piece of military history. This is the Panasonic CF-27 Toughbook field laptop used by the British Army in the mid 1990's.
The laptop in the photos is the one that you'll recieve. As you can see it's in excellent cosmetic condition. The laptop comes in its original Samsonite hardshell case and with the Olivetti printer with all wires/connections included. I'm a business seller and we collect interesting items from all over the country - hopefully this will find a new home with someone who will fully appreciate it!
Here's are some important details:
Laptop
Switches on fine but has no operating system - its been blanked (as a former Ministry of Defense item this is no surprise). This ran on Windows '95 so you'll need to reinstall an operating system along with any programs you need. There's a removable CD ROM player and floppy disk - both seem to be working ok. As you'd expect with something this old the battery hardly holds any charge any more but it works fine when plugged in (new batteries are available on ebay). I've given it a basic cleanup but it may need a deeper clean to get it mint. Keyboard and mouse seem to be working ok. Escape key is missing (just the cap, you can still press the button underneath). Screen is still sharp and clear with no cracks, scuffs or dead pixels. Speaker appears to be working fine (its not very loud). No idea if the hard drive is corrupted so it may need replacing. I'm sure it will need other tweaks but im not technically proficient enough to work out what!
Printer
There's a plug in the case which powers this - I tried it and nothing happened. No lights came on so I suspect this is non-functional.
Case
The power cord plugs into the back of this and is working fine. Within the case there are a load of connections that attach to the laptop and printer. Laptop one works fine. As mentioned above the printer one doesn't seem to do anything (I think this is the printer rather than the cable but might be wrong). Combination lock on the case is non functional and there are a couple of cracks on the feet at the base (this has definitely seen some action!). There's a metal box in there too - no idea what this is for.
Overall, its a very rare piece of tech - not many of these left and for the right person this will be priceless. As mentioned above though, it needs work. Probably best off in the hands of someone who has some experience with older computers.
Pricing
This has been very difficult to price - they seem to sell for anything from £70 (for a totally wrecked one) to £300+ for a fully functional example. This one is sort of halfway - definitely needs work but I don't think it's anything too serious. I've priced it as close to a broken one that I can for a quick sale.
Tech specs:
Loads of info on this model available online. it's even has its own wiki page! Many videos on YouTube with some good info on repairs if you need more info - definitely worth a look!
