PIONEER DC-Z81 Hi-Fi Stereo Turntable Tuner 2 x Tape Speakers Remote - Tested
Thanks for looking
If you're reading this then you'll already know exactly what you're looking at and probably know your music systems well!
This is the Pioneer DC-Z81 from the early 1980's (I think!). The trending price on this model is £289 but I've reduced the price as this one, whilst working it definitely needs a clean. Please take a couple of minutes to read my description all the way to to end so you know what to expect.
The DC-Z81 was Pioneers flagship mid-range model back in the day (obviously, the seperates were better but you can start talking a few hundred Pounds for each module!). Rather than me waffle on about how brilliant it is I recommend you have a look at some online reviews and see what other owners think. Also, there are a few videos on YouTube that are worth a watch if you want to see one in action.
The system in the photos is the one that you'll recieve. As you can see it's in excellent cosmetic condition. When this came in it had been stored untouched in an attic for decades. It was incredibly dusty so I've given it a perfunctory cleanup for the pics but it could do with a deep clean. I've fully tested it and everything works exactly as it should (well...almost!). I'll break down each component so you know what you're getting:
▪︎ Turntable - works fine, belt fine, no problems.
▪︎ Amp - works fine, all butons/stitches present and working. Display is still crisp and clear
▪︎ Graphic equalizer - all switches present and working but quite stiff. Probably needs WD40
▪︎ Twin Cassette decs - all work fine, playback is good. Record works. FF & Rew works fine. Now...each tape dec can play in both directions. When playing in reverse mode the left hand tape plays very fast. I'm 99% sure this is a dust issue. Everything else works perfectly - obviously, this is inly a problems if it's imperative that you can play all tapes in all directions!
▪︎ Remote control - perfect and working
▪︎ Speakers - very good and VERY LOUD. could do with new wires
Cosmetic
Very good - as mentioned, I've given it a basic clean on the outside for the photos but you can see through the grills that it's very dusty inside. Needs the top taken off and a mini vac - shouldn't take longer than 10 mins. I highly suspect this is why one of the tapes plays at a weird speed. Other than that there are no cracks in the caseing, no missing button or switches. All components present and working!
Pricing
The trending price for this model (in excellent condition with the remote and turntable included) is £290+. This one obviously needs a deep clean to get it back to pristine so I've knocked almost 50% off the normal price as you'll have to put some effort in! Thos model needs came with the CD player as standard (it was an optional extra) but personally, I'd get one of them too to complete the system. They're about £50 on eBay but once you have that the whole stereo will be worth well over £400 so definitely worth considering.
Shipping - we normally post same or next day but for a large and delicate unit like this I'll need 3 days to pad and box it carefully before shipping. We use Parcelforce so at least you know it'll arrive safely (hermes/evrie are £3 cheaper but we wouldn't want such a rare and expensive item with a good resale value to get "accidentally lost "!
