Sony CDP-101 CD Player - First Commercial Release 1982 - Read Description
Thanks for looking
If you're reading this then you'll already know exactly what you're looking at.
Please take a couple of moments to read the description all the way to the end as this is being sold as spares or repair only - it is partially working but will definitely need some help - please only buy it if you're prepared to get it fixed.
The CD player in the photos is the one that you'll recieve. As you can see it's still in very good cosmetic condition. It's the legendary Sony CDP-101 - the first ever commercialy released model by Sony way back in 1982 ('83 in Europe) . It has a huge cult following so rather than me waffle on about how brilliant it is I recommend you have a look online and see what other owners think. There are also loads of videos on YouTube if you want to see one in action (and also how to repair it!)
I'm a professional business seller on here and buy up a lot of rare and older electronics which I generally get fixed and then sell online. I bought this from a house clearance company who also hadn't tested it. I use a guy who's been doing repairs for fifty years to check it but unfortunately, he's recently decided to retire - so I have a stack of 70's - 00'S high end audio and video machines that all need testing or repair. I hand pick each machine we buy and always choose the best pieces but the CDP-101 is something very special. His retirement has left me in something of a pickle!
This was really dusty when we got it so I've given it a basic wipe down on the outer case for the pics but I'm sure there's plenty of dust inside. I've plugged it in and done some basic tests but that's all. Here's what I've discovered:
▪︎ Powers on fine so no power issues
▪︎ The CD tray is temperamental. Sometimes it opens, sometimes not - probably needs a clean and some oil
▪︎ Likewise the display, sometimes on, most of the time not so a loose connection?
▪︎ I haven't connected it to an amp so not sure if it plays
▪︎ When I put a CD in and press play, pause etc the lights within the buttons illuminate (obviously, as the main LED display is dodgy I can't tell if its actually playing)
This model in working condition is worth up to £1650 (I've attached a screenshot of the last one that sold on eBay for your price verification) - even absolutely battered ones sell for up to £270! Obviously, this doesn’t work so it may need parts and some work...thus my ridiculously low price!
Definitely one for a tinkerer or one who knows how these machines operate. Could be a fun project if it's for yourself or provide a healthy profit if you're a dealer and looking to sell it on - at least £1000 profit. As mentioned I'm selling it as parts, spares or repair so expect a non functional product.
There are no cosmetic issues whatsoever with the machine. All buttons, switches etc are present and working. There are a few scuffs on the top but no cracks or damage to the casing. Overall, it's a superior level CD player, once you've fixed it you'll have quite a machine on your hands!

Shipped within 24H tracked and signed. Obviously this is a large and VERY heavy for its size item so we'll pad and box it very carefully. Don't worry - we won't use hermes/evri as they'd definitely destroy or 'accidentally lose' such a rare and expensive piece with a good resale value... Will be shipped via Parcelforce so you know it'll definitely arrive on time and in one piece!
International trade welcome through ebays global shipping program
Professional, reliable and honest seller - please check my feedback - lots of happy clients! We ship approximately 200 items weekly so buy with confidence. Normally, I accept returns on all our items but I've been completely honest about the condition of this. It's VERY heavy so I don't want to mess about with return shipping on this - so no returns in this one (sorry!) - sold as seen. We've been selling successfully online for over 15 years now so must be doing something right!
Peace & Good luck!
