If you're reading this then you'll already know exactly what you're looking at.

We're a professional seller online and gather interesting objects from all over the country but this is something very special with a great story behind it - please take the time to read the full description all the way to the end!

Details

This is an original 1910's horse-drawn wagon wheel (it may be much older but that's as far back as we can trace its history). It was made in England and is an extra large size (see Coke can pic). It is made from wood (spokes and outer rim) and iron (axle and inner rim). The size is pretty big - even for one of these - it's diameter is approx 33 inches. It has a 12 spoke design so definitely pre WW1.

Obviously, it really stands out because of the bright yellow colour. It arrived with mud and dust all over it. Originally, I was going to wipe it down (it's only surface dust so will wipe off straight away) but decided to keep it in this slightly weathered condition. There are a few minor chips in the paintwork and you can see it has previously been painted red and before that black.

Condition

Very good condition!  Its structurally sound-ish. there's a small crack in the wood (see pic). All the spokes and axle joints are present. Technically I guess you could fix it and put it on a cart and could still use it - but I wouldn't recommend it without testing it first! The wood is all dry and has not deteriorated at all. I suspect this is going to be a display item anyway and it'll be fine as it is just left as it is for years

Provenance

We're very lucky with this item as we acquired it from a family who have owned the cart since the early 1900's.

This is where it gets interesting! Originally, it was on a bakers cart in Manchester. There it remained as a working wagon until the 1930's. The bakery then got a van but the cart remained in the family. Apparently, there was a rather eccentric aunt who could predict the future! She turned the cart into a sort of gypsy caravan and painted it bright colours - that's where the red and yellow came from. She travelled the country with the cart - actually drawn by horses, not on a trailer - reading people's palms!! She retired sometime in the 60's and the cart was sadly stored in a garage in Southport for the last seventy years. In that time most of the actual cart part was used for fencing and firewood (what a shame!) But this wheel is the last part that has remained. If you're planning on using the wheel as a display piece I personally think it adds a lot having an interesting story behind it!

Shipped within 48H tracked and Signed. It's a massive and very heavy item so we'll use Parcelforce. Hermes/evri is £2 cheaper but you know what they're like - they won't be able to break this so would just 'lose' it instead.
