Vintage Champion Turntable Portable Record Player 1960's - Read Description
Thanks for looking

Please read the description all the way to the end as this needs some attention!
This is an incredibly rare Champion portable turntable from the 1960's (I think) and made in the UK. A very highly regarded model sixty years ago it's still a great looking piece - if you can get it working properly it's a genuine find!
We purchase interesting objects from around the country and sell them on to collectors and enthusiasts worldwide (see my other 2000 listings and feedback!). When I bought this I was assured by the seller that it is fully working. However, when I got it home I noticed a few issues - some good and some bad points.
I put on a new plug, the the speaker made its usual rumble and the turntable started rotating....so power isn't a problem.
Checked all the knobs (volume, on/off & speed) - all fine
But! Then the turntable stopped as I was about to play a record! So that's the first issue - something loose inside maybe?
Then looking closer I noticed that the arm is supported by a sort of rubber collar. After half a century, the rubber has disintegrated so the back of the arm falls into the body. I've included pics of this so you know what I mean. Basically, it needs a new rubber ring at the base of the arm to keep it in position.
Finally, I was checking the stylus and "think" it's present but cant be certain - its very small. Please check the closeup pics.
Originally, I was going to open it up myself and 'have a go' but suddenly remembered I'm not an engineer and have no idea how these old machines work. I'd end up doing more damage than good!
This is definitely one for a tinkerer or someone who knows about these old models. Even though the chap we bought it from insisted it's working, I obviously can't test it fully so am selling it as spares or repairs only - the prices on a working model in good cosmetic condition like this one range from £120 - £280 depending on where you look so this is a serious bargain for someone who knows what they're doing!
Condition
Very good cosmetic condition. Plate present - all switches present and everything turns exactly as it should (manually). As you'd expect with any older turntable there are some scratches on casing - there are no cracks. I've given it a basic clean for the photos but it could probably do with a deep clean to bring out the colours and get it back to looking pristine
